Electronics, Furniture & Decor - The Essentials

By Dyer Pineda

Keeping electronics, furniture & decor clean is probably the number one thought on peoples' minds nowadays. To be honest, more and more people choose their electronics, furniture & decor because of how aesthetically pleasing they are. Let's go find out how they get so dusty in the first place because we learn how to clean them up.

Your LCDTV and your refrigerator are probably two of the things that get dusty very fast because of the magnetic field around them. Electricity consuming devices usually generate their own magnetic field. Dust particles are attracted to statically charged objects making these appliances with magnetic fields a prime resting ground for dust. This is probably why the bigger your electronic device is, the faster it gets dustier. Of course the bigger they are, the less you move them around and this adds to the dust accumulation factor as well.

Tiny electronics, furniture & decor don't attract as much dust as their larger counterparts because of that exact reason. They consume a lot less electricity therefore they are generating a smaller (or even non-existent) magnetic field plus the smaller items are probably handled a lot more. They don't get as dusty as fast as their bigger counterparts but you still have to clean them.

A method to keep certain electronics, furniture & decor dust free is to apply a coating of anti-dust polish. There are plenty of anti-dust polish solutions out there that offer dust-protection without leaving sticky layers of wax on your things. Of course this won't totally stop dust from building up but this will reduce the number of times you have to clean your stuff due to dust.

For most people, the best way to keep electronics, furniture & decor virtually dust-free is to use a feather duster. Feathers are naturally charged with static that's why they're so effective in picking up dust. A gentle pass on your electronics, furniture & decor is all that is needed to pick up most of the dust from the surface. It really makes sense when you think about it, the reason that your stuff attracted dust in the first place is static electricity and the best way to remove that dust is via static electricity as well.

It is also very easy to keep your feather dusters clean and dust-free themselves. Simply take the feather duster outside your house, shake it vigorously and the dust will fall off. There are even some high quality ostrich feather dusters that make great conversation pieces. Which would you rather have on one of your stands? An ostrich feather duster or a rag that's all dirty and dusty?

Another reason why ostrich feather dusters are the way to go when cleaning your electronics, furniture & decor from dust is that the feathers in the duster lift the dust away. As opposed to a rag which simply moves the dust around giving you the illusion of a clean surface. Rubbing your things with rags can also damage them because some dust particles might be big enough to cause scratches that build up over time.

Of course, the best reason why we should keep our electronics, furniture & decor clean and dust-free is to keep allergens away. A lot of people are allergic to dust particles so you're also doing them a favor when you keep your things shiny and dust-free.
