Are Facelifts Just For Women?

By Alan Webb

We live in a youth oriented culture and there is a lot of pressure on older men to look as young as they possibly can. As men age factors like gravity, sun exposure and stress have a negative effect on their faces, creating creases and wrinkles and also areas where the skin sags around the jaw and neck areas. Signs of aging like these can cause a person to start looking tired and worn out, even when they feel great and have a lot of energy.

Just a few years ago, most men would never consider having a facelift, but now men make up a significant number of the procedures done each year. One cause for this increase could be seeing the change in other men who have had the procedure done. Usually this surgery is done along with other procedures that address the upper face, like brow lifts and eyelid surgery, and together these procedures can produce sometimes amazing results.

Men who do not have a great deal of skin damage from the sun or smoking and are in overall good health are the best candidates for this procedure. By having it done in combination with upper face procedures a man could find that he looks ten or twenty years younger.

During the procedure small incisions are made, usually above the hairline at the temples, behind the earlobe, or near the lower scalp. Excess fat and tissue are then removed and the remaining tissues are tightened to remove wrinkles and lines on the face. The procedure is ideal for men who have areas of sagging skin near the jaw and lower two-thirds of the face.

There is not much pain during recovery and the bandages and stitches are usually removed in one week. For most people, two weeks off from work will be sufficient, but there will still be a little bruising and swelling. Patients are cautioned not to use a hot tub, public pool or go swimming for a minimum of four weeks after the procedure.

I have found that there are several plastic surgery surgeons qualified to do my procedure and there probably are in your area also. Among the clinics I found there are also a few facelift surgeons that specialize in the procedure I am looking for, so make sure you check for specialists in your area too.
