Is Heron Island Queensland's Number 1 Holiday Resort?

By Eric James

The Great Barrier Reef in Queensland, Australia, has been considered one of the Seven Natural Wonders of the World. These days there are a wide range of options available for those wishing to take a look at the reef. But the truth is, there are not very many places that are really a part of the reef. Heron Island is certainly one getaway destination that is an important part of the Barrier Reef. It's a typical coral cay which in turn owes its presence to the Barrier Reef and, because of that, is part of the Great Barrier Reef National Park. For travellers, what makes Heron Island extraordinary is that just about everything is at one's door. Guests will not need to waste their day-to-day money (as well as their time) on charter vessels to see the Great Barrier Reef, most people can physically climb out of bed in the morning and be in the ocean within minutes. Not just in the sea, but floating around over the reef. Don't forget your snorkel, face mask and flippers - you might require them if you would like to view all that the Great Barrier Reef has to offer you. Tourists can devote hours snorkeling over the reef so flippers may be indispensable to protect against tired legs. What works to make Heron Island even more extraordinary is that the island happens to be closed to day travelers so you will never be crowded out.

Certainly, there is more to Heron Island than just the coral reef - although much of it may rely on the Barrier Reef. Green turtles travel to the beaches around the tropical isle to lay their eggs. Furthermore there are 1000's of birds from a diverse range of species that call the tropical island home - merely lounging back on the beach front watching them arrive and depart is interesting in itself. That's Heron Island - but what's interesting about the vacation resort?

Your holiday accommodation is not that different to a large number of other resorts. Rooms include the typical ceiling fans, fridge, tea/coffee making conveniences and clock radio. What is a bit special is the absence of a television set, the inclusion of special beach towels, and the outdoor terrace in which a person can unwind and see over the water. Certain hotel rooms include air-conditioning that sometimes can be handy whenever it is really sweltering - but open your windows and allow the ocean breeze in - you will find nothing like it.

When it comes to food, may I highly recommend you get the meal deal. The cuisine is utterly fantastic and while breakfast is provided in your hotel fees, you will save a lot of money by deciding to buy the meals package deal. This includes lunch and dinner for each and every day you are on the island. It furthermore frees a person from worry regarding extra charges - you can choose from the food selection regardless of price - and what a assortment! If you spend plenty of time snorkeling around the Great Barrier Reef, you will need loads of energy to keep you on the go.

Heron Island has one more claim to fame. It is one of the very few tourist areas in Australia which is 100 % eco friendly. Heron Island makes its own electric power as well as safe and clean standard tap water. At the same time, it addresses all its own waste products. This is without a doubt one of the reasons why it has earned numerous environmental friendly vacation awards. As a holiday getaway destination, it is 2nd to probably none and seriously worth including on your must visit list.
