By Oliver Lopez

Hair removal for women is a normal procedure. Good hygiene for them now commonly includes getting rid of unwanted body and facial hair. Fine hair on the upper lip must be get rid of, as well as underarm hair. Preparing for bikini season isn't simply about getting rid of excess body fats any longer. Displaying bikini body for ladies also means displaying smooth arms and legs.

While hair removal is very normal for women, some "macho" guys also remove their excess hair on the body. While the ladies will not raise an eyebrow upon seeing a hairy man, they likely won't be anxious to introduce themselves to him too. Some men understand that hair removal by cutting or getting rid of their facial and body hair is more appealing to the ladies. It can also be that they find being hair-free more comfortable and hygienic than being covered with their own hair.

Getting rid of unwanted hair is a practice that goes back to the old times. What advantages or aesthetic functions they found in hair removal then is still true today.

Hair removal comes in several ways. There is the depilation method, which is the removal of the hair from above the surface of the skin, or the epilation method, which is the removal of the full hair, including the roots, from beneath the skin.

Depilating methods include shaving the hair, trimming it, applying chemical creams that break the bonds of the hair, and buffing them away. Popular epilating styles include plucking, sugaring, threading, and waxing. And while these methods are admittedly more painful, hair will take longer to grow back.

For permanent hair removal techniques, a popular method is by electrolysis. It is the process of removing the hair by utilizing electricity to a solid hair-thin metal probe slid into each hair follicle, causing contained damage to hair-producing parts; therefore permanently removing hair.

For permanent hair reduction, a popular method is laser hair removal. As the name indicates, it uses laser to cause localized damage in the part that causes hair growth. There is also the Intense Pulsed Light or IPL. Sometimes called as Flashlamps, this process uses light of several wavelengths to remove hair and cure other skin conditions such as hyperpigmentation.

The aforementioned methods differ on strength, cost, ease in using, length of time the hair grows back, and other factors. Whatever method you prefer, always practice care as each one has its own advantage and disadvantage.
